At least not less than 13 persons were reportedly killed at the weekend in Asso Village in Kagoma Chiefdom of Jama’a Local Government Area, Southern Kaduna by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
According to an eyewitness report, the attack happened after a large number of armed herdsmen invaded the community and started shooting sporadically.
The eyewitness, who narrated how the incident happened to newsmen, explained that several people sustained gunshots injuries during the attack while trying to run away from the storming herdsmen.
Those injured in the attack he said have been admitted in hospitals where they are now receiving treatment.
He further revealed that despite the cries and howls of the people while the murderous attack lasted, there was no security personnel to come to the people’s rescue, “not even the security people stationed in the area since last year December,” he lamented.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai who confirmed the attack in a statement by his spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, “charged security agencies to redouble their efforts in fishing out those behind the killings and to act promptly on carefully vetted intelligence”
The governor also condemned the incidence and vowed that those behind the latest attack would be hunted and brought to justice.
Southern Kaduna people of Kaduna State, who are majorly Christians, have lost several hundreds of people to gruesome and brutish attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The attacks have continued to worsen since last year.
The state governor had blamed foreign Fulani herdsmen as being responsible for the incessant attacks as a revenge of some of them killed following the outcome of 2011 general election in Nigeria.
