Transport Minister Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has threatened to establish a libel suit of N1.25billion against a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and an aide to Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Lere Olayinka.
The former Rivers State governor said the duo have seven days to publicly apologise to him for the allegation they levelled against him that he owns the N18 billion the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) discovered in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos or face stiff legal actions.
Fani-Kayode has however reacted to Amaechi’s threat, saying he is not losing sleep over it, and that his lawyers will reply anytime the former Rivers governor’s lawyers sent over his court papers.
Amaechi in a letter he reportedly wrote to Fani-Kayode and Olayinka, through his lawyer, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), claimed that he had been defamed by messages his accusers posted on their Twitter timeline over the uncovered loot.
In the copies of the two letters dated April 14, 2017, Amaechi claimed that Fani-Kayode and Olayinka aired in their allegations that “The $43 million is Rotimi Amaechi’s. He owns the flat it was found in too. NIA’s story is fake news! NIA does not keep cash in minister’s flats.”
Meanwhile Fani-Kayode, in a quick reply through his spokesperson Jude Ndukwe said he was never bothered over Amaechi’s legal threat, adding that his lawyers would answer to the Amaechi’s claim any moment he sends the letter to him.
“We have been inundated with calls about a threat by Rotimi Amaechi to sue Chief Fani-Kayode for defamation over the 43 million USD issue. We are not losing any sleep over this matter. We have not received any court processes or letters from Ameachi but when we do so our lawyers will respond vigorously and appropriately. Thank you”, he stated.
