Three suspected fake army officers namely Kingsley Inyang, Edet Okon and Victor Akpan have been arrested by operatives of the Imo State Police Command.
According to Chris Ezeike, the state Commissioner of Police, the suspects who allegedly go about defrauded people on the pretext of enlisting them into the Nigerian Army were nabbed at Amakohia Ubi, in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.
To perfect their fraudulent activities, the CP said the trio reportedly opened an office where they charged unsuspecting victims the sum of N8,000 and N70,000 for medical tests and recruitment exercise to join the army.
One of the three suspects who was wearing an army uniform confessed to the crime while also informing that the army uniform he was wearing belonged to his father who is a retired soldier.
The suspect also revealed that he has thus far defrauded no less than 22 unsuspeting victims who wanted to elist in the Nigerian army.
The CP informed that exhbits such as two pairs of army uniforms, a pair of army boots, one camouflage cap, one laptop and other exhibits were recovered from the suspects during a raid.
He also stated that the suspects would be charged to court at the end of investigations.
