Iran has been accused by the US of trying to destabilise countries in the Middle East as the administration of President Donald Trump launched a review of its policy towards Tehran.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made the accusations pointing fingers at Iran whom he said were “alarming ongoing provocations” while also stating that Tehran’s behaviour undermines US interests in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon.
While speaking with reporters, Tillerson said the US will review Tehran’s compliance with a 2015 nuclear deal and it behaviour in the Middle East.
According to Tillerson, “Trump ordered the review to evaluate whether suspension of sanctions related to the nuclear deal was “vital to the national security interests of the United States”.
However, Iran has yet to comment on the Trump administration’s review, but its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei had warned in November that Tehran would retaliate if the United States breached the nuclear agreement.
